From September 2017 to July 2018, MIEC is offering insureds CME coursework that focuses on a culture of safety. The out-patient coursework discusses the role of leadership in engaging staff to overcome practice obstacles, the duty of providers to engage patients in their care, and to support work processes designed to mitigate risks associated with transitions of care, lab and test result management, and safe referral. The in-patient culture of safety course describes a systems-based approach to reducing preventable patient injury. This year MIEC has updated CME courses about opioid prescribing and managing opioid addiction. The classes describe strategies and practices that can improve opioid prescribing practices and the importance of withdrawal symptom management.
