		Medical Insurance Exchange of California is the West’s first physician-owned professional liability insurance company. We were started in 1975 by physicians from six Northern California county medical societies. Our goal then was to provide physicians with a reliable, financially secure source of malpractice insurance with the best service and at stable, competitive prices. Over the past quarter century, we have grown considerably, now covering more than 6,800 physicians in California, Alaska, Hawaii, and Idaho. Despite our growth, we haven't lost sight of our original operating philosophy. We're still doctor-owned and governed.MIEC holds an "A-" (Excellent) rating from A.M. Best, our rates are stable and competitive, and we return dividends when claims experience warrants. Since 1980, MIEC policyholders have shared $213 million in premium credits.
