Claims Management for Acupuncturists

MIEC aggressively defends claims against policyholders. As a policyholder-owned company, we are committed to defending good medicine, and our claims management is simple: we vigorously defend nonmeritorious claims, and equitably attempt to resolve those with merit. MIEC’s record of success speaks for itself in this area. More than 85% of reported claims close with no indemnity paid.

There are good reasons for the exceptional outcomes:

  • Seasoned, full-time claims professionals who are devoted to successful outcomes in claims against MIEC policyholders. Our claims team is experienced in health care, law and insurance. From claims offices in Oakland and Santa Rosa, we provide acupuncturists with prompt, knowledgeable service.
  • Highly accomplished defense attorneys who specialize in professional liability litigation. We carefully select experienced attorneys to represent our policyholders, choosing only those with a proven record of success. We also use the most qualified experts to evaluate and assist with defense of malpractice claims against acupuncturists.
  • Acupuncture peer review to evaluate cases. Every suit filed against an MIEC policyholder will be reviewed by an acupuncture society-appointed peer review committee before trial or settlement. These committees of acupuncturists bring a depth of understanding of medical facts not found in lay review bodies, and provide valuable advice on the medical standards of care to the MIEC claims staff and the attorneys who represent MIEC policyholders.
  • No case is settled without the policyholder’s consent.

We encourage policyholders to call if they have concerns about malpractice litigation, including questions about potential claims. Experience has taught us that when policyholders report facts of potential claims while they are fresh in mind, we can offer advice to help prevent needless litigation. Please call on our Claims Department with questions about:

  • Requests for medical records
  • Advice about withdrawing from a patient’s care
  • Receipt of legal papers, including a notice of intent to sue, summons and complaint, demand for arbitration of a claim
  • Receipt of a deposition notice or attorney meetings
  • Response to a notice from a federal or state agency, such as a board of medical examiners
