For us, claims handling is a team approach. We involve you the policyholder, your MIEC claims representative and, if necessary, your MIEC-appointed attorney.
Our
results are exceptional: over the past 25 years, MIEC has closed more than
85% of all claims against MIEC policyholders without an indemnity payment.
MIEC's claims staff
is a select and highly experienced group of professionals who specialize in medical professional liability insurance. Most have at least 10 years experience with MIEC, and possess excellent working knowledge of medicine and the law.
With claims offices in Oakland, California,
Boise, Idaho, and Honolulu, Hawaii, we are able to provide prompt, convenient service to our policyholders.
MIEC carefully selects defense attorneys to represent policyholders.
Attorneys are chosen for their knowledge of the intricacies of the
specific medical specialties and familiarity with the litigation climate
in your community. We choose only those attorneys who have established a
successful track record of defending our insureds all the way through
trial and who have shown a willingness and ability to form a close working
relationship with each insured that they represent.
Physician peer review: Every claim or
suit against an MIEC policyholder is analyzed by a medical
society-appointed, multi-specialty physician peer review committee before
either trial or settlement. These committees bring a depth of
understanding of medical facts not found in lay review bodies, and a
valuable opportunity for attorneys representing our policyholders to
better prepare their defense. Because these committee proceedings are not
open to discovery, they offer a forum for candid discussion about the
medical standards of care to MIECs defense attorneys and claims staff.
