National Patient Safety Awareness Week

Published on:

This week (March 9th through 15th) is National Patient Safety Awareness Week.  MIEC is dedicated to raising awareness about patient safety and encouraging our members to prioritize safety in all aspects of care.

MIEC’s Knowledge Library offers a wealth of information to support patient safety and risk management, including Speak up for Patient Safety, which discusses the importance of fostering a culture of safety and creating high-reliability care environments.  Other useful resources in the Knowledge Library include legal and regulatory updates, case studies, and practice management recommendations.

The American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) plays a pivotal role in this initiative, emphasizing the need for continuous improvement in safety protocols and practices within healthcare settings.  ASHRM’s resources provide valuable insights and strategies for enhancing patient safety and reducing adverse events.

Additionally, ECRI just recently released their annual Top 10 Patient Safety Concerns for 2025.  The ranked list covers emerging risks such as:

  • Misdiagnoses and delayed treatment resulting from dismissing patient, family, and caregiver concerns
  • The growing threat of counterfeit drugs
  • Medical errors and delays in care resulting from cybersecurity breaches
  • Insufficient governance of artificial intelligence in healthcare

MIEC encourages our members to take advantage of these resources and to actively participate in Patient Safety Awareness Week.  Together, we can make a significant impact on patient safety and work towards creating safer healthcare for all.
