We are MIEC, an insurance company that provides medical professional liability insurance to physicians in Alaska, California, Hawaii and Idaho and to acupuncturists in California and Hawaii. We are owned and operated by our policyholders, which number close to 7,000.

We were founded in 1975 by physicians during a time when commercial carriers withdrew from the market. Now, some 30 years later, we remain determined to provide our policyholders with low, responsible and stable premiums.

We are committed to protecting and defending our policyholders’ reputation and assets against malpractice suits. Almost 90% of claims against our member-physicians are resolved without indemnity payments.

Our philosophy: Reward you

We have zero profit motive, returning any sums that are not required to maintain our financial security to our member-policyholders via dividend / renewal credits. These dividends now exceed $280 million, which includes $20 million in dividends that will be distributed in 2010.
