MIEC has partnered with Med-IQ (former ELM Exchange), to offer risk management continuing education courses. All or a portion of your annual risk management course requirements may be satisfied through the Med-IQ online program. Risk management training is a means of reducing adverse events, mitigating professional liability, and improving patient safety at an individual and system level.
CME in opioid prescribing, opioid addiction, and a Culture of Safety in both the in- and out-patient settings: From September 2017 to July 2018, MIEC is offering insureds CME coursework that focuses on a culture of safety. The out-patient coursework discusses the role of leadership in engaging staff to overcome practice obstacles, the duty of providers to engage patients in their care, and to support work processes designed to mitigate risks associated with transitions of care, lab and test result management, and safe referral. The in-patient culture of safety course describes a systems-based approach to reducing preventable patient injury. This year MIEC has updated CME courses about opioid prescribing and managing opioid addiction. The classes describe strategies and practices that can improve opioid prescribing practices and the importance of withdrawal symptom management. Each course is worth 1.25 AMA PRA Category 1 credits and is free to policyholders.
